International Agreements – Force Majeure

On March 25, 2020, the Italian Ministry of Economic Development took note of the need expressed by several companies to the Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Craft Trade to document the conditions of force majeure resulting from the current phase of health emergency by COVID-19. This is mainly because the clauses in many supply agreements with foreign countries mean that it is necessary to produce such certifications in order to invoke force majeure and handle the breach of obligations.

At the request of the individual company, therefore, the Chambers of Commerce may issue declarations in English on the state of emergency in Italy following the epidemiological emergency caused by COVID-19 and on the restrictions imposed by law to contain the epidemic.

In the coming days, the forms with which companies may apply to the Chamber of Commerce to issue the certificate will be published on the various webpages of the Chambers of Commerce.
